Get the look: Beachy waves for beginners.
Do you ever see those insanely talented hair-wizards creating beautiful curls with a hair straightener and think HOW!?
Well wonder no more Billie babes.
The lovely geniuses at ghd have shared a step-by-step guide to creating beachy waves and it’s for beginners!
So grab those stylers and give it a go…
Prep
First things first - protect your beautiful hair!
Make sure to mist your hair all over with heat protecting spray before starting.
The ghd Heat Bodyguard spray helps to prevent cuticles lifting by improving the smoothness of the hair surface, ensuring sleek and smooth locks every time. Coating every strand of hair, this professional hair styling product works to protect your locks from everyday heat styling, for hair that looks and feels healthier.
2. Section
Like any styler, it works best if you style small sections of hair at a time.
ghd recommends two inch horizontal sections throughout.
Personally, I find it easier to do one side at a time and tie the other half back out of the way. I then tier the hair into three sections: top, middle and bottom layers. From there I create 2 inch horizontal sections to style.
Once i’m finished on one side I use a big claw clip to keep the finished side out of the way, and not ruin my curls, while I do the rest.
I find this helps me to make sure I don’t miss any bits but also makes the whole process a little easier.
3. Angle
Once you have your section, angle your styler vertically with the nose pointing down and clamp.
4. Turn
Rotate the styler one full turn away from the face.
A good way to remember which way to go is to have the styler logo facing towards the mirror to begin (like in the ‘Angle’ image above). Then when turning, you make sure the logo is going towards the back of your head (anti-clockwise) until you come full circle.
5. Travel
Now you’ve mastered the turn, time to let that styler travel down the hair.
Let it glide down until you reach the ends of your hair.
Side note: When I was learning to curl my hair with a hair straightener it helped to think of it as a similar action to curling a ribbon with a pair of scissors.
6. Continue
Awesome work! You’ve nailed that first curl - time to keep going.
To create the natural beachy look, you need to alternate the direction of that next section.
This is where that little logo trick comes in handy. Instead of turning away from your face, turn this one towards your face (clockwise) until you come full circle.
Now keep alternating directions until you have completed your whole head.
It should look a little like this…
7. Finish
Time to comb out those curls!
Get yourself a wide tooth comb and give it a little spray with some hair spray and gently brush it through your hair.
This will lightly seperate those curls without losing the style and the spray helps it to stay in place.
Once it’s all brushed through, you can give it a little volume by running your fingers through it and giving it a bit of a tousle.
8. Voila!
Yes girl! You just created some cute as beachy waves with your hair styler!
Don’t worry if you don’t think you got it 100% your first go. It may take a couple of gos to master the art of the curl. Practice makes perfect after all!
