My Version chats to stars and people of influence to give a glimpse into their time as a teen and see the things they are currently obsessed with!

This New Zealand Music Month, we are celebrating by profiling some amazing wahine in the music industry!

Say hello to proud Filipino-born and Wellington-raised songstress, jeline.

Obsessed RN.

Kiwi musician/band that I’m loving:

My Cosmic Girl! They’re releasing one of my favourite songs from them soon (3rd of May), so keep an eye out for ‘Help It’ By My Cosmic Girl!

I’ll be celebrating New Zealand Music Month (NZMM) by:

Playing a gig alongside Frank On Tap and Esbee! At Meow Wellington, 17th of May at 8pm! Tickets at UTR wink wink nudge nudge

NZMM is important to me because:

Uplifting Aotearoa’s music scene is so important! The amount of hidden talent we have in our country is so immense and putting a highlight on all our artists this month is a great way to introduce people to local acts, many of which are incredible!

My favourite thing about the New Zealand music scene is:

Playing live! Getting to meet new musicians and reconnecting with friends is always a good time but also getting to know the venues and the teams there! Wellington has such a good live music scene and the venues are such a big part of making that a wonderful experience.

Currently bingeing:

Avatar: The Last Airbender (I’m showing it to my bf for the first time!) and Bridgerton (I’m so excited for the new season you have no idea).

Song on repeat:

Nonsense by Sabrina Carpenter.

Favourite Insta account to follow:

@isobellewalker_ - she’s a local welly musician and I love watching her current series ‘Fire Up My Arse’ where she’s vlogging her journey to become a self employed artist!

Must have beauty product:

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in both black and brown.

The item of clothing I’m definitely over wearing:

This cute cami I got from General Pants Co! I think it’s called the ‘Helena’ cami by SNDYS.

Currently reading:

Ngl I don’t really read a lot :3 But the most recent book I re-read was ‘The Testing’ by Joelle Charbonneau.

Snacking on:

Sour gummies and Pams pickles.

Can’t stop watching on TikTok:

AT TIKTOKS EEEE! I loveeee cats so seeing lil cats being silly or like slideshows of cat memes make me very happy :3

Dreaming of:

Making it big in music one day, fingers crossed!

Next place on the list to travel to:

Ooh I think it would be super nice to go to Europe, so I can visit my sister in Germany but also visit Italy cause I’ve never been. Also Japan because I’m still cut on 2020 happening and missing out on our school trip to Japan :(

I’m currently inspired by:

Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter, Grentperez, Doja Cat!

My favourite way to relax is:

Playing Minecraft and watching Bluey.

I stay healthy by:

Going on walks with my bf :)

When I was younger…

One thing I love about Gen-Z is:

How chaotic everything and everyone is! Also how more honest people are with voicing their opinions and calling out wrongdoings in the world.

If I could give my teenage self one bit of advice, what would it be:

Don’t compare yourself too much to other people. You may think life’s a competition but life will be so much easier and happier if you just take things one at a time, at your own pace. Because at the end of the day, being fast at things socially doesn’t really matter and doing things when you feel comfortable to do it is the best move!

My favourite part of being a teenager was:

Being able to hang out with my friends more often! Growing up means it’s harder to catch up with them because life is so busy, so I miss seeing them on the regular.

My first job was:

Security work at Sky Stadium.

My dream job as a teen was:

Film stuff but behind the scenes, like prop making and foley art!

Best piece of advice I ever received as a teen was:

Don’t worry about the big goal toooooo much, make things easier by setting small goals to reach the bigger ones so it’s not overbearing.

My biggest fashion faux-pas was:

OMG LIKE WHY WAS I WEARING THIS CAMO JACKET WITH BLACK CONVERSES A SIZE TOO SMALL WITH A OLD WORN T-SHIRT WITH HOLES AND SWEATPANTS AND THOUGHT I WAS TOP DOG IN YR 9?! And I wore that soooooo many times :’)

My biggest inspiration was:

Benee, Dan and Phil and Jungkook from BTS.

My fave Kiwi musician/band when I was a teen was:

Benee, Mit Eldnar and Six60.
